The instant outpouring of support and concern for Kirk from the president and his Cabinet showed his enormous significance. Donald Trump announced his death a few hours later.
The terrible irony is that Kirk’s star rose through his willingness to place himself in the centre of nominally hostile liberal spaces
If men like Charlie Kirk can’t even speak to American students without fearing a gunman in the crowd, America is in a far more dangerous place than anyone has so far been willing to concede.
