He does seem a bit sneaky,but I also got the impression that conversation was a misunderstanding of crossed wires. Caroline thought he was saying he fought for Gani ,but what he meant was he regretted agreeing to put Zelah up . That's how I understood it
But of course when Caroline is telling George ,George is happy to basically say it's a load of rubbish .
