Caroline isn't unfunny. She's just funny for all the wrong reasons.

I'm not so sure on the social savvy bits. I've seen where she stumbles between 2-3 personas and then once she gets caught in-between those on some contradiction, it's very easy to tell she's used to just being able to push through using her personality alone rather than having to really unpack why she thinks a certain way. I'm thinking it's because it would expose too much of how she actually feels.

I'm not so sure she understands what is going on around her at times because she will adapt her personality one way to a situation and then there is a switch to another personality that is more domineering. That comes off as very jarring. I think the others see the potential for this making her easy pickings and they figure out eventually to push back harder when she stumbles. That's if she doesn't wise up to it. At heart I suspect she has a tendency to take things way more personally than she lets on and so rejection is very difficult for her.

Likability is also very important to Caroline. According to her, she's never really had friends and has led an isolated life. That would make it seem it's not important to her to be surrounded by people? Where are the self-reliant bits? Her and Richard should get along in many ways because of that depiction, but I find it really strange they don't seem to relate on anything. So I'm not sure I buy her "I don't have friends" life story.

Richard seems more comfortable with himself than Caroline does. So I think his comfort in group social situations despite there being this generational gap, the fact he is comfortable in his own skin and doesn't need regulation acceptance or validation from others is a huge boon for him, but is completely annoying to Caroline as it likely exacerbates any insecurity issues.
