BF is more of a Christmas tradition than Thanksgiving, imo, because for so many people Christmas decorations and stuff come out right after Thanksgiving. We tend to celebrate both holidays as part of the longer holiday season.

I don't know when y'all imported it, but when I was much younger, it signaled a time of high spirits and it signed a healthy economy at that time. Lots of trips to the Mall just to walk around and see the decorations and in the US it's when most people start to light their homes.

Shops were more competitive and it was really fun to see what each would pull, just from the sales papers. Now it's just companies throwing cheap plastic crap that really is a waste of manufacturing as it will very shortly end up in a landfill before long. It's no longer that special time for shopping with the family since good deals are across the entire year now. What I remember more fondly are the things that would happen adjacent to the start of the holiday season. Trips to the mall, going through the sales sheet with family. My cousins and I would go the hair salon together as a family, maybe see a movie in the Mall. I think BF is going the way of the Malls frankly so you may get your wish before long? It doesn't make sense during a time when some people can't even afford a holiday meal.

It's been officially a month-long-ish sales holiday now and that's acknowledged when I talk to shopkeeps that there isn't a proper BF now. It makes it very difficult to find a good deal, if there was any. There's also gimmicks and tricks... one may be buying a model that has stripped down features from the original model to make the price more attractive and this is what is found on a pallet during the BF sales period.

Cyber Monday is my real pet peeve as it became useless shortly after they started it because the sales are saturated over the weekend and now across the whole month. That one I wish we could get rid of. Without spending hours on shopping, I just look for the things I actually need.

Anyway, I'm not actually complaining, just explaining my thoughts. I'm not particularly bothered that it's changed? As long as a product is at a fair price, I'll shop when there is a sales period.
