1. Karma is a system that's meant to allow other members to rate the quality of your posts. If someone agrees with your point, or thinks you put it across eloquently - then they will + your karma. For the otherwise, they will minus your karma. However, it's become very petty and people come on solely to minus peoples karma, and more often than not - the people with high karma only have so because of cliques and friends that are in agreements to up each others karma etc.
2. You've probably done nothing. It doesn't really mean much if someone minuses your karma unless you've been outright rude. I'd suggest you turn it off (you can do so in your control panel) so you don't worry about it too much.
3. To post in the right section, you basically just go to the right section and click 'new topic'. For example... if you wanted to post about... Lobster recipes, you'd go into General Chat and click 'new topic'. If you wanted to post about Luke's ears... you'd go into the Luke subsection (you can see them all on the homepage of the forum listed) and then click 'new topic' in there. etc etc.
