When I met my white girlfriend, back in 1999, all but 1 of my family dis-owned me. I have not spoken to them since. All because she is white.
When I get married later this year, I will have no family at my wedding, apart from my brother, who respects my decision. My family (Mum, Dad, 5 brothers and 4 sisters) are all racist with exception of my 6th brother.
My wife to be, will have all her family there. The majority of the church will be white.
I'm deeply saddened that my family feel this way, but whether they are there or not, I'm marrying my white girlfriend. I don't see a white girl, I see someone I love and care about.
I've been called by my family, a traitor and a disgrace to black people. I no longer care, I still have black friends who respect my decision. In fact, I don't ever recall it being an issue with them.
Please stop using the racism card for everything. Yes racism exists, but I've seen the other side, where my black family abuse the white race, so try and see it from both sides

I sympathise. I used to go out with a girl half Jamaican half Barbados. Whenever we walked down the street other white people would think nothing of it generally, but other black people (male and female) would stare at us as if we were dirt, sneer and even occasionally would question my girl about why she was with me.
Of course, it wasn't all one way, white people are more than capable of racism, and we met some very supportive black folks, but what annoys me is when I come on to forums like this one and see people saying things like
"black people can't be racist to whites because they hold no power over them", or
"you must live in the sticks with no black people for miles". Actually, I think it is more the other way around, the way these people naively spout about blacks having no power over the white man. They obviously haven't been out in any major town or city after dark.
More blacks in jail because of racism in the police? Even with the black police complaints commitee and the black police association? They were set up to provide racial equality, although there are no white counterparts. I guess that's why three white policemen had to succesfully appeal against unfair dismissal recently, accusing Ian Blair of 'hanging them out to dry' simply because they were white and he wanted to make an example of them. They recieved a total of £90 thousand, much less than an ethnic in an equivalent case would expect to recieve.
How is being hysterical about racism supposed to 'cure' people of it? Surely if you're going to go on about multi culturalism and tolerance, you should extend it to all aspects of society? Surely, in an ever changing world, people aren't arrogant enough to assume that their way is right, and others should be punished for not being or thinking like them? Haven't we been there before? Like, every time? Same game, different interpretation of the rules. Shouldn't we offer just a little understanding to people who have seen their country change beyond recognition in as little as ten years? Did anyone ask them if they wanted multiculturalism? Surely every country needs to have its own, overriding culture, that must be embraced by anyone who wishes to live here? Surely the preservance of our own culture is the most important thing to anyone with an ounce of patriotism? That is indeed the case in all other countries, but in England we are taught to be ashamed of our country, our history and traditions. Until that changes, people will continue to see things in black and white (pun NOT intended).
