Ultimately its not up to Simon when the show ends. He'll find a way if he's desperate like doing a top 12 single like Pop Idol did that time.

Simon has the power to decide when it ends when you think about it. If he wants it in time for Xmas, it'll be in time for Xmas because it is ITVs highest rated programme

But ITV schedule the programme, they have the power to extend it out to six months of reduce it to six weeks if they want to. In the end, what ITV say goes. They could have had the results show on a Sunday if they wanted to, pre recorded. Simon wouldn't have been happy but he would have had to do it.

ITV don't care. They just want to sell advertising slots within the show. They don't care what happens to the acts once they're eliminated/win.
