What can I add to this.
I remember Live Aid so well - and I thought it wouldn't have the same magic, but I was wrong.
I was moved to tears in seconds by it. Absolutely wonderful.
Low points: sorry Pete Doherty destroyed Children Of the Revolution. Couldn't hear him for a start. A huge missed opportunity for him and an insult to the memory of Marc Bolan IMHO.
High points: where do we start?
Sgt Pepper - fantastic
U2 - fantastic
Coldplay - absolutely wonderful - how cute is Apple?
Annie Lennox - I was completely wrecked by her rendition of 'Why' over the film
Keane - great
Scissor Sisters - energetic and brill
Robbie - great crowd performance - who else would have DARED to do the Freddie 'We will Rock you' bit. Wish he's sung more and held out the mike a LITTLE less - but I'm being a bit picky.
I admit the Who were quite good - but I don't like Daltry or Townsend. Met them many years ago when I was 15 and they were obnoxious, arrogant and disgusting. Never say I don't hold a grudge.
PINK FLOYD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So bloody amazing, I had to dig out my old Dark Side cassette this morning.
It was so surreal (well they always were) seeing these old blokes delivering a performance that just blew me away.
I know I have probably missed someones great performance, but I was buzzing at the end. Why did it have to end?
Why wasn't I there?
And why the hell did my Freeview BBCthree go off channel just when I was going to record the re-run onto my hard drive at 7pm last night???
Well done to all, well done Bob, and let's hope it has the desired effect.
I don't share the beliefs of the nay-sayers. 1985 did change the attitude of the west man in the street to poverty in Africa and our personal responsibilty. The Free Nelson Mandela campaign worked by putting intolerable pressure on the Apartheid regime.
The Civil Rights Movement changed the face of most of the US - (although they still have an arrogant and insular fatal flaw in their national WASP conscience).
All in all July 2nd 2005 was a day to cherish and remember.
Loved it, absolutely loved it.
