They are stronger fish than tropical ones and don't need as much care. They can even survive weeks with no food at all. Apart from that, a goldfish bought from a major UK fish retailer like Jollieys should live about 5 years.

I thought that too. Have tropical fish too. Marine fish are the ones who need alot of space. Not freshwater.
