If you have a choice, it is best to go self catering, so you are not tied to meal times.
Also look out for the cheap food shops and the Weigh and Saves, they are a godsend.
As for books, look out for older students selling there's as new books are a fortune.

I don't know my halls yet, they will contact me now that I have confirmed my place on the course, and it should definately be self-catering, I don't trust other people cooking for me!
