Because he's an attention-seeking, self-pitying pessimist with no real pleasant qualities, and he's only in there to win; he doesn't care who he stabs in the back, and is completely selfish.

He's also aggressive, insulting, rude, and has turned on innocent girls in a flash. Why? Because he's insecure and knows they're a threat to his money.
