Thats dissociative identity disorder, schizophrenia is where you hallucinate and you imagine someone to be there, whether you can see them or not. With schizophrenia you are always the same person, your personality doesn't change, but you get controlled by hallucinations. In simple terms its a little voice in your head that people can hear, it seems real and they obey the voice.
That's what happened with Newt.
