The fuss that has been made over Wendy Richard's comments are totally and utterly pathetic. It's this ludicrous level of political correctness that has made this country the over-sensitive, whiney, pathetic place to live that it is. You can't say ANYthing without being accused of being 'racist' or 'sexist' and heaven knows what else.
Men are afraid to compliment a woman in case he is hoiked over the coals and fired for 'sexual harrassment,' and you can't fly your 'Merry Christmas' banners in some towns for fear of offending 'ethnic minorites.' My town luckily isn't so ridiculous and doesn't ban Christmas; but if it did I would celebrate it anyway!!! What I say is if you don't like my England flag or Merry Christmas sign; LOOK THE OTHER WAY. I would NEVER tell someone of another race or religion to take their country's flag down; Especially if they were IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY
And now we have a elderly lady making an innocent comment that she can't differentiate between Chinese and Thai, and she gets accused of being RACIST. STUPID STUPID STUPID! THAT's what it is; I know MANY people - myself included, who struggle to tell Chinese and Thai and Malaysian and suchlike apart. They DO look similar; it's not a racist remark, and I am not STUPID; this is a FACT. Just like some African races look similar. If I see a black person, I don't know if their ethnic origin originates from from Ghana or South Africa or Sierra Leonne or whatever. Similarly with Scandinavia; I can't tell a Dane from a Norwegian.
And when I was in Spain last year, me and my husband and daughter were mistaken for SWEDISH, because we are all fair skinned and blue-eyed... Were we offended and huffy and ranting about how utterly mortified we were, and calling the race relations board? NO, because we're not pathetic whiney whingers who have NOTHING ELSE TO MOAN ABOUT.
Political correctness has gone TOO FAR. Whilst there NEEDED to be something in place to protect ethnic minorities from abuse in this country; like sexual equality, political correctness has gone too far, and it is now just coming across and ridiculous, silly, and laughable, and actually extremely annoying.
