But this was reported elsewhere, and the original memo did come across as imposing a Muslim fast on non Muslims, which even our resident Muslim agrees was wrong.

Wasn't this originally reported in the Daily Star? They take non-news and blow it way out of proportion for a good story.

I don't see what this has to do with anything.
Of course it shouldn't be a law that everyone must obey Muslim fasting, but simply out of RESPECT for another culture, you should have the DECENCY not to eat in front of Muslims during their fasting. It's not going to kill you to wait 5 minutes to eat.
