So did he try and approach the head teacher first before threatening the teacher concerned?

Nowadays the father would get into trouble for threatening behaviour.

I find it incredible that this attitude was there as late as the 1980's. I wonder if there are any left handed children out there in our schools still suffering.

A friend of mine from Korea indicated that in Korea it still goes on and from the sound of her voice agreed with it, if I read them correctly. It is considered a matter of shame if the child is left handed at school there, because it means the parents did not care to correct their child.
