What it DID remind me of though, I have to say, was a rather indulged child not getting his way!

I don't think I'm hard, like Miriam I'm an old softie and generally quite sensitive to other people's unhappiness.

I was completely unmoved. It felt as if someone had taken his sweeties off him (and his Black Tower, apparently!) and he was sulking.
