If murder is wrong, then to murder is wrong, and the death penalty is murder, so it's wrong.
If murder is right, then there's no reason to be punishing murderers and thus no need for a death penalty.
Either way you look at it, the death penalty is wrong.
Also a lot of innocent people are wrongly convicted... how would you like to be one of them?
