He knows who ever wins will make him money from the show to cover the prize, be it in the fees paid by ITV for the show or the sales of the winners single and the first album even if it only does okay.
To me as long as the judges continue to mentor the performers the they can't give impartial advice and the whole judging process becomes corrupt and open to abuse.
Personally I think it is time for a format change. Yes still have mentors but have the separate from the judging panels. That way you still have the competition within the competition element of the show but without the ego's of the judges spoiling the show.

But Simon has been in the music industry long enough to know who has any kind of longevity. He keep saying to auditonees that he doesn't want to patronise them by saying they're better than they really are but surely by building up his own acts and destroying others - who are better - he's IS patronising them. Cowell will always make his money so I don’t understand why there is always such a commercial element to his decision making on the show. Talent should be the only thing that matters on the show.
I think you're right; we do need a format change. The constant petty arguing between Simon and Louis is undermining the show.
