You don't really need any software as it comes with iLife 08, depends what software you need, you can get office free using torrents. (I got links.

Well the only thing I can suggest with transferring stuff is using a USB memory stick, slow I know but Windows & Macs hate each other when it comes to file sharing, you can transfer stuff but its worth looking up on the net how. Or a external Hardrive.
