You don't really need any software as it comes with iLife 08, depends what software you need, you can get office free using torrents. (I got links.  )
Well the only thing I can suggest with transferring stuff is using a USB memory stick, slow I know but Windows & Macs hate each other when it comes to file sharing, you can transfer stuff but its worth looking up on the net how.
