Yes... I don't see the point in singing a song if it means nothing to you. Even co writing is fine, someone else can write it as long as you over look it and add in your own ideas. If your just taking a random song that you havent looked into, it kinda ruins the point of music. At least if your going to sing someone else's song, you research into it and make it apply to you.
