Of course he would have been. This show is about making money and they wouldn't risk putting someone through who couldn't sing, as that would mean they wouldn't get many votes and therefore wouldn't make much money. Daniel was clearly in the top 3 singers from Dannii's category (which wasn't a strong category anyway).
And just because you and some others think he got through because of his sob story and that he isn't a good singer doesn't mean that you're right, maybe Dannii hears what some of us hear, a great guy with a nice voice.

He spoke out the song for most of his bottom two performance last night, since when has that been singing? That other girl in Dannii's category was a much better singer and had recording artist potential.
Dannii needs to get real, Daniel CAN'T sing. She only loves him so much because of his sob story. She is living in one big fantasy.
