We recently had a warning on the works intranet about a postal scam, which claimed to be a sorry we missed you, we have a delivery for you card. The warning said that if you rang the number on the card you would instantly be billed for £15
One problem
It was out of date - ICSTIS had long since taken action and the £15 bit was wrong, you would end up paying that if you stayed on the premium line listening to the warning.
As soon as I pointed out the description of the warning on snopes, the warning was pulled.
Having said that, I did read a report that some OAP's have lost thousands to some of these scams, because their generation were more trusting and more likely to respond to something that sounded like authority.
I have lost count now how many emails I have deleted telling me I have won various lotteries I did not enter and business deals to spirit money away for relatives of murdered African dictators.
