I guess it's contextual. I'd say it's very recent since it's experienced by our current generation. But then that depends if you count that as "recent".

A large portion of Obama/McCain voters will have the credit crunch and Iraq and terrorism and so fourth on their minds. Nothing further back than the 1990's imo will bother them.
yeh I agree its more likely Obamas policies than the fact that he was a black man that got his votes. but you can understand how black people would be so proud.
