I think most of us on this site make intelligent points from time to time, though in my own case probably not consistently...

But the point I originally made needs to be illustrated better:

Is there anyone at your job who does very little work all day because they are too busy talking about others who they say do very little work? I used to work with people like that and they annoy me because they think very highly of themselves and fail to see the irony in what they are saying.

Well that's the point: I am saying that Tim and Alex don't have intelligent conversations because they are too busy bemoaning others for not having intelligent conversations.

Is that clearer?
