I am reminded of the poor British embassy official in Cairo
He was rung by a local news paper with the exact same question. Now there are strict rules regarding gifts, especially from foreign journalists so he tried to fob them off, but they were persistent, so in the end he settled for a small box of after dinner mints.
The following day he read in the local paper
We asked embassy's what they wanted for Christmas
Denmark: More care for the environment
America: Better harmony between the peoples of the middle east
Nigeria: An end to world Hunger
Germany: An end to conflicts in the world
Japan: More respect for the elderly
South Africa: For us all to become a more caring society
Ethiopia: An end to world hunger
Britain: A small box of after dinner mints
