If a device on a USB draws too much current then the pc will shut the USB down, and the only way to get it to work again is to power down (Not reboot) switch off at the mains, wait a minute or so and then switch back on.
I had a scanner that had this problem.
Given what a toaster draws in terms of current, there is no way this device could ever work.
But then the Onion are just selling boxes of pseudo gifts
