That illusion can be deceptive
The world of computing covers a very wide range of disciplines and we can not master them all.
My experience comes from work I have done on web design, as a one time COBOL programmer, what I do at work with Access, the packages I have used and my venturing in to the world of multimedia. At work I am classed as a superuser, so add to that some experience with that particular network. I am also a cyber warrior so am up on the various scams and junk people do, as well as the common websites that offer certain utilities.
What I have not mastered to my shame is hardware and hardware building projects. Rooting inside the box, makes me nervous that I might destroy my PC.
I would also love to do what my brother in law does and get into network management.
Like I said, computing is a very wide field.
