Chapter 3

7 Months later...

The house was amazing. It was surrounded by acres of wood and tree's. All alone it stood, the place seemed so alive. The house was like a doll house, the house which you see in your dreams. It was very small and pretty. There were three windows, one was to the right, the other to the left of the front of the house. The third was right next to the door in the center of the front. Linda held her baby in her hands and walked slowly up the driveway. Once she reached the white enterance door, she could no longer see the road, the tree's loomed over the house, as if they were magnetic towards it. As the peace and quiet began to make Linda feel like she was dreaming, she opened the front door and was greeted by....

...screaming children. Her two sons running around the hallway with swords and hook. One proberly pretending to be Peter Pan and the other Captain Hook. The hallway was small, it had wooden floors and white and grey wallpaper. The hallway seemed quite empty for Linda's liking, it'd be better if it was filled with pictures and other fancy decorations. She placed her bag on the floor and walked towards the right. To the right was the kitchen, all in white and the sun brightly shining through the window. This was Linda's favourite part of the house, it was exactly how she wanted it. The marble counter's seemed to elegant in the sunshine. She found that a high chair was already layed out for her. She placed little baby Philip in the high chair and gave him his bottle. Linda turned and looked around the house; it seemed so nice, everyone would agree. She began working straight away, she grabbed a spare piece of cloth and began tidying the kitchen a bit. Linda began opening the cupboards for an idea of where to store everything. She noticed that the cupboards where brand new, much better than her old home. As she opened a cupboard she came she saw a large book in the left hand side of the cupboard. Linda thought it was strange that it was there - no furniture had arrived yet. She grabbed the book and placed it on the counter. It's old, musty smell made Linda fell a little anxious. It was fairly large, and had nothing the front. If her mother was here, she'd say it was a book from "her day".

Linda opened the book slowly, trying not to mess the counter's up. Although the book wasn't dirty, Linda always tried to be careful. She came across the first page, it's old pages seemed to be very worn. Linda saw little writing in the corner of the first page. It was so tiny that anyone with bad eye sight would struggle to read it. Linda began to read out loud "An easy way to skin tresspassers". Linda read the line several times before she realised what it was saying. "Skin tresspassers?" she repeated. Linda felt a sudden rush of fear come over her. Whoever's book this was, they weren't nice people. Linda closed the book and turned to place it back in the cupboard. As she placed it slowly back a voice came behind her "Pretty weird huh?". The deep voice sounded familiar to Linda. She turned and there he stood. Her beloved husband - Ian. "Found that in the back. I just shoved it in the cupboard." he said quietly. Linda knew her husband didn't get spooked easily, yet he was showing signs of being quite startled by what he'd found. Before Linda could reply, he spoke again "It could mean animals. It was a farmer's land before we moved here." The reassuring words made Linda feel a little at ease - yet she still couldn't understand why "skinning tresspassers" would do anyone any good - but then again Linda had always find it hard to understand why anyone could kill an animal. "I'm going to continue to clean up in here. Take that...book away please" she said as she began to clean up the place.

The night seemed to come quicker than ever, and the darkness covered the house. The outside light was brightly shining, it was the only light that was visible - other than the street lamps, but they weren't as bright as they used to be. Linda and her husband sat watching TV. Their furniture had arrived earlier in the afternoon. It felt more like home now, seeing the pictures of the family up against the pale cream wall. The living room was possibly the biggest room in the house. It had white carpets and a large window at the front. The room was now filled with familiar furniture. The TV was near the back of the living room, above it was several pictures. At the side of the window was the black leather sofa and a small lamp to the side. As Linda sat watching the Exorcist with her husband, she suddenly remembered what Ben had told her 7 months ago. About there being "something" on this land. Something didn't seem right to Linda. First the warning from Ben, now a mysterious book, and now they're watching the Exorcist. This couldn't be right. "I'm tired now, lets go to bed" said Linda as the film came to a close. Ian looked at her - that old forcing smile he always did when he was secretly annoyed. They both got to their feet and closed out the lights. Linda settled down for the night - her mind still racing with thoughts. What is with that book? I haven't looked at it proper yet. Linda had only seen the first few pages, nothing more. Her mind raced away...as did her eye's as she drifted off to a deep sleep.

Quite a boring chapter this, the next one is where it all kicks off. So keep watching
