Thinking on this over night, suppose the woman is seven months gone when she is revealing her suspicions she is having twins to her close friends, are we still in the realms of credulity.
As for the other female character, off screen as it were I may end up having her find out about her condition through some non standards means yet to be devised, although I may still stick to the three to four week time frame.
BTW does anyone else go to this trouble in researching their stories?

Definitely still within the realms of incredulity. Some women don't know they're having twins until they're born - and that's even using modern-day equipment.
PS. The other character finding out by a non-standard means can be interesting, so long as it's not completely unreal

Things like this always add a new element to a story.
