A week later, and David knew he was in love.
In lessons, David became increasingly promiscuous and touched John at every opportunity; trying to brush his leg in lessons for example. They never said anything about the friendship developing but David concluded that he must feel the same; at least, John invited him to his house on the Friday evening.
David and John walked to the house, David in anticipation; John in his clear, slow way. As they reached the house, John did something he had never done before; he touched David. Only to lead him into the house, but he touched him. David felt ecstatic. As they entered the house, a dark skinned servant entered the door and visibly flinched at John. David was confused, but as the evening progressed David saw a different side to John which he tried to ignore.
John lead David through the rooms of ornaments and paintings; "my other home" he'd remarked. He explained how his house in England was large with a grand ballroom, and the King had even visited it once. After about an hour of exploration, John called for drinks; hot mulled wine for both.
The old servant took about 5 minutes to fulfill his orders. She was old, and David was not bothered, with his enormous girth he would not have managed much quicker. He had been admiring the mirror of the sitting room as the servant entered, and saw John approach her in the mirror. He could hear a cold hissing of John almost shouting at the servant.
"How long did it take you?"
"Sir... there was a lot to carry sir.. and uhm...". John tipped the tray of tea onto her body as she sobbed.
David, who had seen the events in the mirror, stood there and didn't know what to do. In the end he said nothing, as John smiled at him and walked closer to where he was standing, as the servant went to fetch "the new drinks"
