It makes total sense to me, having gone through 10 and half weeks, that Anthony would not have wanted to give up his chance to win. He knew had an even chance to win and, even if he didn't, why would he have copped out? [Which was at the time a reasonable assumtion.]

I sincerely don't believe he'd would have given up like that after wanting to win for so long. I think he'd have wanted to win even if the winner got nothing. He's competitive, he has that 'I have to win' mentality.

Eugene would have felt himself less likely to win because his many insecurities would make him doubt it and because he was a newbie housemate and one has never won yet. He did the right thing for him. Anthony would not have taken it and I'd have agreed with him, that would have been right for him.
