Asking another housemate to join you for a smoke is a very powerful bonding tool, so once there, they are more open to listen to & adopt your views, away from the ears of those who don't smoke. Lisa recognised this early on & gradually Karly's mate Sophie wandered over for a chat, then Kris to Sophie, then Charlie to Kris and finally (to a lesser extent) Rodrigo to Charlie.
Say what you like about Lisa, but you have to admire her social skills. Similarly, you have to admire Freddie & Marcus for noticing & recognising the situation for what it it. They may be annoying as hell and have some serious character flaws, but these are the 3 smartest housemates by a distance. Siavash slightly less so.
Karly, Sophie, Charlie, Rodrigo & Noirin are merely pawns to be influenced by the main 3 to think/see things as they desire, and in Karly's case, carry out wounding attacks when necessary.
To be fair, the importance of smoking breaks/areas is not just a BB issue. You see the social exclusion it creates every day/night in work & pubs/clubs. Lisa was just smart enough to recognise it's value in house (obviously not from her experiences in the workplace mind you).
You know, I was having this conversation with another ex smoker the other day... It turned out a big part both of us stopped smoking at work was because of the way other smokers at work behaved towards others and not wanting to be part of that.

As far as I see it, Lisa is pretty much the personification of that same workplace smoker culture.

In all the places we have worked we both agreed smokers are where the most malicious and nasty gossip and rumours always started and spread... We came up with a few theories why this might be the case, but because I am not in a argumentative mood today I won't rile the smokers out there by saying them

And on about Lisa being one of the 'smartest'? I don't think thats really true. She is the most sly, manipulative, and conniving, and one hell of a game player, but that isnt the same as 'smart' imo.
