The real reason is that they were bored, hungry and already had some glimmers of fun with the previous housemates coming in. When you're sitting around all day, quite basically many things seem funner than they used to.

Yes but they haven't been consistent with it over the 6 weeks, or showed that at all. When it's genuine, it's far easier to sustain and reveal at all times of the day. You don't need to bottle it up or save it for a special occassion, as was seen here. It also comes across as contrived and fake, as dim-Rod even realised.
I agree they were bored, hungry and motivated because of the ex HMs. But if they were interesting and of a similar standard to the ex HMs, then they'd only be left with the hunger issue; so they could still be genuinely entertaining, and as a result be less vandalising/OTT/contrived/temporary in their actions today.
It had a sense of 'too little too late, so don't bother doing this BS' IMO.
