OK, now for the science................

I work in A&E and we see loads of infected piercings every week. believe you me, some of them are in places where the sun don't shine.

Please, before you have anything pierced, think about how it would be if it was infected and swollen to four times it's normal size, and not in a good way!

Each to their own and all that, but my pet hate is piercings inflicted on very small children. They have no say in it and it's cruel. Little girl ear piercings are bad enough, but please, not little boys, and why not leave them all to decide for themselves.

I managed to discuss the prospect with my sons when they were keen as teenagers to have their ears done - I didn't forbid because that would have sent them straight out to do it.

They are now in their early thirties and eternally grateful that I made them think twice about it.

Personally, I have my ears pierced and I went straight out to do it when I was 15 because my dad forbade me! I haven't regretted it at all, and I quite like nose piercings. My d-in-law has one, which was cultural/religious and I wish she still used is, because it really suits her.
