They can be 2 seperate statements, and not necessarily linked. Your assumption could be classed as a subconscious racist slur.

I get a lot of Jewish slurs against me even though I am not Jewish, but I do support Tottenham that is known as a jewish club (fans even call themselves the Yid Army). I asked if it was an innocent comment or not, the response seemed to be that it was not an innocent comment. So now I could be classed as being subconsciously racist because I questioned someone on a dodgy comment?
