I do agree with Davina (or am I thinking of Cawood?) on this much:
If someone gave Marcus a proper make-over, haircut and replaced his costume with some ordinary nice clothes then he would be a decent looking man.
Not saying attractive or especially good looking but just a regularly handsome man in his 30s who most women would agree was not bad looking at all and maybe even slightly handsome in his own way.

I'm not gaying out on him either but even though I never had idiotic 'ape drapes' I also was the type who never really cared to put much thought into appearances or anything outside what suited me for work and whether I had razors or not.
By simply putting a slight effort a guy can really improve their attractiveness and in a way its really just saying "Hey.. im available and want to make a good impression',
or,
at least in Marcus case it a way to STOP SAYING "Hey.. I am available to be the coolest tough guy for 17 year old boys and other male Star wars fuktards!"
