THE family of Charlie Drummond revealed his secret heartache – his mum slipped into a coma two years ago.



Sharon Drummond, who is separated from gay Charlie’s dad, had a severe aneurysm while out shopping.

It left her unable to speak or walk and doctors say it will be at least three years before any signs of recovery are likely to emerge.

Charlie’s grandma Sarah Smith, 78, from Whitburn, near Sunderland, said: “Charlie has been through an awful lot of trauma and there is nobody more deserving to be in that house.

“His mam will be so proud of him. We all are. He’s a right character.

“I call him my butterfly. He’s the wind beneath my wings.”
