Hi,

The reason the computer did not run scan disk is because your hard drive is running on a file system called NTFS (New Technology File System), right and about this shut down problem there have been a number of problems with the shut down with win2k and xp, try some of these:

• Start Regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it to a value lower than 2000, say 1000 as a test

•Close any antivirus/firewall software down.

• Get latest service pack for windows xp could fix some errors.

• Defrag hard drive(s).
