The earthquakes were VERY scary. I was in the kitchen when the first one struck at 8.50am. First thought was 'bomb' - I know that may sound a little over the top but given Manchester's recent history it was not too unrealistic. We comforted ourselves with the thought that we hadn't heard the bang so then put it down to a large lorry going past - we're having new houses built at the end of the street. It wasn't until I got to my sister's about 1 and half miles further north and she asked me had I felt the quake, that I realised what had happened. We had a bit of a nervous giggle about it and off I went to work.
The second one at about 12.40 was VERY frightening. I work on the first floor and my desk and workstation - complete with computer, massive hard drive and printer, all wobbled quite ferociously. We were just thinking 'what shall we do' and checking that each other was OK when the 3rd one hit. Well, it was pass the brandy time!!!
The epicentre was apparently in an area of east Manchester called Beswick, right near the Commonwealth Stadium and it's about 3 miles east of where I live and work, so we were pretty close. Luckily no damage was done but people's nerves were rather frayed to say the least.
I certainly hope we don't get any more I don't think my nerves could stand it.
