The difference between him and siavash was siavash only had to give up his clothes and siavash is happy wearing womens clothes anyway so I dont think he gave up much.
But with marcus its a personal identity thing his ponytail which probably took him a great deal of time to grow is part of his idnetity what he feels comfortable with.

Lisa asked Siavash if he would have cut his hair off if they asked and he said yes.
I do agree that asking Marcus to cut his ponytail off is a big deal to him personally, but so are Siavash's clothes to him.
