[rquote=2545566&tid=146825&author=Shasown]spammers can and will obtain lists of people to send their messages to. Some will target forums members email lists, others bye them from semi legitimate sources.
Saying the spam you received is directly as a result of the hacking on this site cannot be proven. Unless of course the email you used on this site was only used for this site and no other. And the spam was addresed to that specific email address. Check the address it was sent to if that is the case, and if it is a non generic type email addy(
me2@hotmail.co.uk as oppsed to
me2@aname.fsent.co.uk).
You could also look at the source of the email and run a trace back then complain to the originating source ISP.[/rquote]
I dont really want to get into a discussion about this but seeing as you mentioned it I have 2 email addresses, one I use for personal mails and one I use for sites like this. My personal one NEVER receives spam and the one I use on here has never received spam either until after the security was breached so I think it is fairly safe to assume the fraudulent emails are definately linked to tha accessing of the TIBB database. There would be no point in obtaining members email addresses if they weren't going to be used for some sort of gain i.e. selling them on to spammers.
