He's still lying though, he could have just repeated his excuse about needing to say sorry to his gf.
And regarding the 2nd lie, he was being serious in response to Davina about nominations. He obviously forgot to stick to his original reason of it 'not being fair on Marcus'.
I agree with him that he didn't deserve to be in the final though!
