[rquote=2592675&tid=147887&author=Fom][rquote=2592664&tid=147887&author=Princess]Are alternative/non-mainstream differernt things? Cos I know quite a lot of non-mainstream artists but I wouldn't call many of them 'alternative' [/rquote]

Yeah they are different, alternative is something that doesn't really fit in any musical category and non mainstream is anything that isn't pop... a lot of them are pop. Wether they are pop-rock or pop-punk. They are pop.[/rquote]

non mainstream is any music that isn't in the mainstream, the genre is irrelevant. its like Heidi Montag would be considered nonmainstream because very few people know of her music and she's never played. granted pop does dominate the mainstream and there are some genres with very few mainstream acts but there are a lot of RnB, Hip Hop, Punk and Electro acts in the mainstream too.
