Love all mentioned so far except The Who - I can appreciate them but I've never really been much of a fan. And I don't really know much about The Byrds.
Have to love The Animals for House of the Rising Sun, too. (and to a lesser extent "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place" or whatever it's called).
I'm not going to begin on Motown - I could be here for a while. Martha & The Vandellas, Dusty Springfield, The Jackson 5, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie [though some of these are slipping into the 70s really]...okay I've begun
