I don't have a problem with so called "manufactured" bands or single performers. Any of them who make it big have just been given a leg up, that's all, and hopefully they would have got there in the end anyway.

I think the reason artists like Hear'say and Gareth Gates have struggled is simply that they have forgotten what made them succeed in the first place, their live singing ability!

Gareth Gates sang his heart out on each live show in Pop Idol along with Will and Darius. But since then he's mimed almost every time I've seen him. And I'm sorry but to mime at a concert is the ultimate sin!

Hear'say did the same, they claimed that all the dancing they did made it hard to sing live, and they mimed at concerts as well.

What we want to see is a true artist who performs when we see them. Will is a proper singer, he always sings live and has therefore proved it can be done. If David Sneddon follows in Will's footsteps he will probably succeed too, but if he mimes he'll fail just like Hear'say and Gareth Gates before him.
