For the most part I do agree with what you say - but if that man did slap you back - would you have any respect for him? Two wrongs don't make a right.
Hyperthetically - if you had previously been warned by that man (if he was a partner) that if you slapped him again he would leave - and you did, then he should leave - or even press charges of assault.
You probably wouldn't be so quick to do it again in another relationship.
