Well done for pointing that out, Miriam.
Remember the horrendous allegations made against the Hamiltons which were splashed all over the papers, then it was proved that the woman who made them was lying? (She's now in jail).
Also TV presenter Craig Charles was alleged to have raped a woman - again this allegation was printed in all the papers - and again it was proved that she too had been lying.
I think it's appalling that people's careers can be potentially ruined by scurrulous allegations, usually with no supporting evidence or proof behind them at the time. Surely there should be an embargo on releasing such information until they have been proved to be 100% true?
You're right, rachb - it seems to be 'guilty until proven innocent' nowadays.
Sorry for the rant, but I do feel quite strongly about this issue (not just in Matthew Kelly's instance).
On a slightly lighter note, good luck to Davina.
