If you're trying to connect wirelessly instead of a cable you need to go into the router admin (http://192.168.2.1/ ) and set SSID and channel.

Then run the 'Wireless Network Setup Wizard' in Control Panel and use the same SSID. You also need to use the same security method and key if you set that up in the router.

Also there are connection details you have to enter in the router admin panel - there's info on this page about what you enter for AOL:

If you have a firewall program disable that temporarily to see if that is stopping it working.

What kind of router is it out of interest?
