Thats what any person who truly believes in Jesus Christ, should think! I am no christian, but obviously thats what faith dictates. If you know the consequences of renouncing your faith, and the consequence of your Daughter being shot.
It might not make sense to someone who doesnt truly have his faith, but it makes perfect sense for a devout christian.
And its not literall. He is just trying to point out how much he believes in his faith.
